Why buy from Minnesota Farmhouse instead of someone else?

We build our products with REAL SOLID wood, no veneers, cardboard, fake wood, etc. When you purchase one of our tables you know it will last, as it is 100% real wood. We don't use any construction lumber in our products and obtain our wood from local sawmills.

We finish our table tops with equal coats of poly on the top and bottom to avoid warping as much as possible and also offer our Signature "Smooth Groove" table top finish which is very popular and unique.

What is Smooth Groove?

Smooth Groove is our Signature table top finish. We construct the plank style table top with grooves, then we fill the grooves with a clear reactive polymer compound. This allows for a smooth table top that can easily be wiped clean, yet still looks like a plank style farmhouse table top. Smooth Groove is our most sought after option for all of our wood types. Click on Furniture, then Dining Tables and Benches above to see examples. Or better yet, schedule a tour to see first hand the amazing beauty of this feature.

How do you construct your table tops?

All of our table tops and bench tops are put together properly with biscuits and high quality wood glue so they will stay together long term and all the seams match up with no gaps.

What kind of wood do you use in your tables?

We use solid, furniture grade, kiln dried white pine, knotty alder, red oak, white oak, black walnut and hickory woods. We can also source many other woods. If you are looking for something specific, please ask. We don't use construction lumber like some others.

Do you offer Leafs and Extensions?

We do! Please check with us on how different styles work.

What kind of wood do you use in other products?

We use mostly alder, pine and red and white oak lumber, some knotty, some clear.

What is the difference between construction lumber and kiln dried hardwood lumber?

Our wood is kiln dried to 6% - 8% compared to others using construction lumber that is typically dried to 17%. Drying it that far dries up the sap pockets that get stuck in pine wood that could cause problems in the future if they aren't dried up. Kiln dried wood is more stable for furniture use than construction lumber.

How thick are your table tops?

The wood we use in our tables starts at 2" thick and results in table tops between 1 1/2" and 1 3/4" for a thick, chunky look.

What kinds of glue do you use?

We use only the best glue available, Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue. It is waterproof and FDA approved for indirect food contact so is 100% safe to be used in table top environments.
